Truro Cathedral
The Diocese of Truro was established in 1876 and its first bishop, Bishop Edward White Benson, was consecrated at St Paul’s Cathedral in 1877.
The project was ambitious. Truro would be the first Anglican cathedral to be built on a new site since Salisbury Cathedral in 1220. For over 650 years no one had attempted to emulate the great cathedral builders of the medieval era. As well as this, it was initially uncertain if there would be enough money to complete such a project.
Today, Truro Cathedral is seen as a triumph of Gothic Revival Architecture and its magnificent spires can be seen soaring above the city’s skyline, and, are at their best when silhouetted by the bright blue Cornish sky.
Saint Austell Youth Band
St Austell has had a competitive Youth Band since the 1960s but their commitment to nurturing brass players for the future was really cemented when their "School of Brass" was formed in 1990. Through training brass players in schools and at the band room, they soon created one of the best youth bands in the country. Many players from this original group now play in the senior band.
City of Truro Male Choir
Keur Mebyon Cita Truru
The City of Truro Male Choir in its current form came into existence in 2003, but the choir can trace its singing forefathers back to two local village choirs formed in the 1940s. It has a current membership of 45, is closely associated with the City of Truro and gives approximately a dozen concerts a year.
