The Corsham Windband Association is bringing its spectacular 2024–25 musical season to a close with a grand final concert on Saturday 12th July, from 3 to 5pm at St Bartholomew’s Church, Corsham — the perfect finale to what has been a vibrant and inspiring year of music.
From September through to July, the Association has delivered a packed programme of concerts, tours and community events, drawing in enthusiastic audiences and giving its many young musicians a wealth of exciting performance opportunities. The energy and commitment shown by these young performers has been nothing short of remarkable.
At the heart of the Corsham Windband Association’s mission is a dedication to youth music, and this year has underlined the strength of that commitment. The ensembles involved bring together talented young people from across Corsham and surrounding areas — many of whom receive music lessons in their schools as part of a thriving local music education effort. Thanks to this strong partnership with schools, dozens of children and teenagers are discovering the joy of making music together, learning new skills and growing in confidence.
The season’s highlights are impressive and plentiful. A standout moment was the Pre-Tour Spring Concert on 4 April, a stirring preview of what was to come in the Cornwall Tour (7–9 April). The tour saw Corsham’s young musicians perform in a variety of memorable venues including Truro Cathedral, Land’s End, Wesley Methodist Church, and Wheal Martyn Clay Works. These performances, some in collaboration with groups such as the Truro Male Choir, Cornwall Youth and Children’s Choirs, and St Austell Youth Band, showcased the inclusivity and joy that live music can bring to communities. Truro Cathedral, in particular, was filled with harmony and community spirit — a moment that will live long in the memories of those who took part.
Back in Corsham, the band continued to be an ever-present part of the town’s cultural life, performing at events such as the Corsham Fun Run (27 April), the bustling Taste of Corsham (17 May), and two days of music-making at the Middlewick Open Garden Event. They even took to the streets, busking in Corsham town centre to raise funds and spread the musical cheer even further.
All of this builds towards the final Summer concert taking place this Saturday 12th July at 3 pm in Saint Batholomew’s Church in Corsham. It will be a celebration of everything achieved over this dynamic year. Families, friends, and music lovers of all ages are warmly invited to come along and support the band’s talented young musicians as they round off the season in style.
With so many young people involved, and the growing impact of music education in local schools, the future of music in Corsham is looking brighter than ever. The Corsham Windband Association continues to prove that when young people are given the opportunity to learn, play and perform music, they don’t just create wonderful concerts — they help build a stronger, more vibrant community.
